Larry,

Are you playing wth your trim? When WOT, start trimming up small amounts at a time. You'll should notice and feel a difference. Find a happy medium on the trim by watching your speedo. When it starts getting to high, you'll definitely see it on the speedo / feel it. I have no problem w/42 mph - 44 mph w/my 3.0, depending on conditions.

Check over the diaphram good for any signs of cracks or warpage. If none clean it up and give it a shot. Do a preasure test on it. Don't hold me to it but I think it should be around the 6-8lb reading.

I've decided to clean up the fuel pump and keep it as a spare. A brand new one from Sierra is just $110. Small price to pay for piece of mind knowing I have a solid fuel system. New one gets picked up today so fingers crossed.

Excellent idea. Just remember to change out the filter too. That yellow line running to the carb is part of the USCG approved pump. It deverts the fuel from a blown out diaphram in the pump to the carb. Keeps it from dumping fuel into the bilge.
IE: gas leak , fumes , boat go KABOOM!!

I took her out yesterday in about 1-2 foot seas and a good 10-12 knot wind. WOT @4800-4900 RPM was 36 with just me onboard and trimming the drive up. No smoke or smell. Responded very well and ran what I consider normal. The new fuel pump definitely cured her woes. I think taking her out with water like glass and no wind she will run at 40 no problem. I also changed the Racor 5510 fuel water filter and added a bunch of Sea Foam to help clean up the fuel and tank. I am sure there is bad fuel in there and perhaps some crud at the bottom of the tank. I plan on running her a lot over the next few days to try and burn through the tank. I got 3 extra filers so I will be changing them as I go as well.
I have a 19 inch prop now and she is running high RPMs at around 4900 @ WOT. I am considering going up to a 21 pitch prop to reduce RPMs and increase WOT. No problems sacrificing some low end torque for an increase in WOT.

    Good to hear Gin!!
Keep playing with her and she'll get better and better. Probably wouldn't hurt to change the oil again after you run thru maybe 3 tanks of fuel.
I am glad to hear that you are getting happier with her!

Thanks Larry. We're going out for the day on the boat tomorrow. So psyched. Installing new switches in the am before we go out. I plan on doing at least two oil changes this summer. I am considering Amsoil or Royal Purple just to make sure I have some good quality oil protecting the engine.

    That's funny!!
I've been running Royal Purple in the motor and drive of the last 2 boats I have owned , plus the Diablo I now have.
I love the stuff even if it is a little pricey.
    Have fun!!!!
