Alrighty, so my uncle is still in the process of selling off his cottage, which in turn means that my covered boat storage at his dock is no longer going to be accessible to use this summer (DOH!). Which if you look at my profile photo, my boat is sitting in said dock..lol.
Soooo it means if I happen to get my boat onto the water this year, I will be anchoring it out in front of our cottage during down time (aka during the week).
Now, I know we do have a very very old (40+ years or so) anchor with chain sitting in deep enough water, but it has never been tested on a boat of my size. Now my boat is only an 18 foot, but the biggest boat that was tied up there was a 15ft Cutter with a 35HP OR an aluminum fishing boat to give you comparisons.
So i'm looking for some feedback about what might be a potentially "new" anchor setup that I could use with my boat so I know its not going to break free from that anchor we have and drift into shore. I know my neighbour has a V8 engine block with chain wrapped around it.
Also, the bottom is a mud based clay, no rocks.
I have seen "shock absorbers" that get used w/ a chain assembly that prevent the chain from ripping out the front cleat. So I know I would be using one of those to start with.
Feel free to post up any web links to any webpages, so at least I can get an idea of whats out there.
thanks
