Default Gauge Problems-SX18

I have an SX18 coming up 3 yearsold and 110 hours. Some of my Faria gauges have never worked properly from new. The speedo which the dealer told me was bunged up and my own responsibility (the boat having been on the water for 3 days!), Iv'e given up with that altogether. The rev counter now sticks and shows higher revs until I bang it and it drops back to the correct reading. The oil gauge and hour guage steam up and the hour counter is now sticking! I meticulously clean the boat after every outing so the guages are in good condition. I was told they are good guages but I wouldn't have Faria again.

hmmmm...dont hear many complaints about Faria gauges. With the speedo make sure the small vent on the front of the outdrive is clear. It doesnt take much to bung it up and the speedo stops working. You could also try disconnecting the tubing at the back of the speedo and blowing compressed air thru the line in the event something is plugging it. You might also want to check the length of the line to ensure it is not pinched somewhere.
As for the tach, check the back of the tach to ensure that it is set for 6 cyl (assuming you have the 4.3L). Sometimes spinning the dial around 3-4 times and then resetting it will clean up the problems you mention.
I'm not sure about the oil gauge or hour meter fogging but check the electrical connection to the hour meter to ensure that its clean.

Hi Vilanova, I concur with Mikey, I have no issues with my Fariah gauges what-so-ever. Doing as Mike suggested with the speedo would be my first job.
Even sending them back to Fariah (as a last resort) as they carry a lifetime warranty, especially the gauges that are fogging.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Thanks Mikey and Tony for your replies. I'll try the things you suggested. I have cleaned up the small vent before for the speedo and it worked for a few days but as soon as she's back in the sea it seems to get bunged up very quickly again so I've given up trying now apart from when she's lifted out for antifouling annually.
