New here so be gentle!

I have a 1994 Mariah Davanti 225 cuddy with the Merc 5.7L 250 HP drive.
When I purchased the boat it had a 5 blade stainless prop on it, I am not sure of the size/pitch right off. We have had it for a few years now and it's slow to plane but runs like a banshee after planing. We plan to begin using primarily for skiing/pleasure this year and wondering if I need to change/upgrade the prop to help with the planing issue?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
