Hi Lance,
I recommend just replacing it with the same carb that it came with which I believe is a Rochester style carb made by Weber. Bolting any aftermarket carb not specifically setup for your marine application could actually hurt your performance and creat an unsafe situation. Besides, getting the adjustments and jetting just right on any carb can be a nightmare.
Another important factor with carb replacement is you have to make sure what ever carb you get is rated for Marine use in enclosed engine compartments as they have been designed or modified to deal with potential fuel leaks and flooding where as automotive carbs do not have these mods so they are not safe to use in an enclosed area. Use of an automotive carbs on our Mariahs could result in a possible fire or explosion in the engine compartment.
Because of the safety issues, all electrical and fuel components used in enclosed Marine engine compartments must be explosion proof rated (alternators, ignition systems, carbs, fuel pumps, circuit breakers, switches, etc..) and that's why they tend to cost a lot more.
Sorry if I put a damper on your plans for your carb, but I believe in safety first....boats are replaceable, people are not.
Good luck,
WetWilly
