Re: Fariah depth gauge works....sometimes
Morning, Larry,
Got the boat out yesterday and tried out the new depth finder. It started working as soon as I got it in the water. After a little while, it would flash 0.0 if I was sitting still or idling around. When I sped up and planed out, it would start giving correct readings.turning it off an back on had no effect. Can't figure this one out. ??? Have been curious too about the top speed of the boat, so I got a GPS and got a top speed of 48mph with 5 people onboard but still has that wot bog. I can get it almost all the way open, but put the throttle all the way down it it bogs out. Very annoying, but that's a different problem to fix on another day. Any ideas about the depth gauge? Re: Fariah depth gauge works....sometimes
Roger, it's wide open throttle bog. When I open the throttle up all the way, the engine loses all power and acts like it want to die

Re: Fariah depth gauge works....sometimes
Paul ,
Did you set the keel offset on the unit? Does it stay at 0 with engine off? |
Re: Fariah depth gauge works....sometimes
I set the keel offset at 2ft. Just tried something with a weird result- boat is on the trailer at home. Filled the bilge full of water from the garden hose. No change in the 0.0 flashing. Didnt expect that to change since it's on the trailer. Got the water level above the transducer. I unlocked the transducer from the base while submerged and immediately got a steady reading of 1.6 and the shallow alarm started going off (I had that set at 4ft). I did fill the base with 2.4 oz of anti freeze like the instructions said. When I unlocked the transducer from the base, it filled with water and began reading steadily. Think it might not have had enough antifreeze in it?

Re: Fariah depth gauge works....sometimes
I sure will. It'll be the weekend after next before I can get her back on the water again (on call at work). Have a water pump to replace and maybe an alternator, too, in the meantime.

Re: Fariah depth gauge works....sometimes
Thank you Paul, got that. Incidentally re the anti freeze I switched from that to mineral oil [a laxative from the pharmacy believe it or not] a bit thicker still go's 7.2 7.6 6.8. I must have al lot of fish in my river or its back to the drawing board.

Re: Fariah depth gauge works....sometimes
Welcome, Roger! I have heard of some udon mineral oil and other use the ethylene glycol (anti freeze). The instructions I have from faria with my new depth finder says to use the anti freeze, but airmar, who I believe manufactures the transducers for faria, says to use mineral oil. If mine still isn't working right on my next trip out, I'll try the mineral oil. Just for kicks and giggles, I may ask my pharmacist for a bottle of transducer laxative. Hahaha
