Default Hard starting 5.7L

I have a 1994 Talari 210, 5.7lL. Hard to start. Last time out it appeared to be flooding and had to open butterfly plates to light. Changed the plugs, cap and rotor since they were the orginals. Still hard to fire. Any thoughts??

Does it start fine cold, yet if you shut it down and try to restart a short time later you need to override the shifter and open the throttle to start it?
    That was my problem.
Replacing the choke thermostat helped alot.

Do you cold pump it a couple of times to set the choke and pump some raw fuel in?

No last boat was fuel injected. I guess I have to get used to this carb. It Started fine 1st 4-5 times I took it out. Just lately it started acting up so did the tune up.

I'm assuming you have the thunder bolt IV ignition. My guess it's the ignition sensor. It is located in the distibuter. Has 2 or 3 wires (depending how old the part is) coming out of it. Mine did the same thing for a while before it quit starting all together. It would fire up easy cold and out of the water but would crank and crank forever when it was cold and sitting in the water. After she warmed up it started up easier but like I said, the problem got worse. I replaced the sensor but not till I went through a full tune up, new coil, fuel/water seperator, new kill switch, battery, checked timing, fuel lines, check for bad gas ect. Couldn't find the gremlin till it stopped starting because I would always have spark at the spark plug but it must not be a strong enough spark when it starts cold. Part cost $50 and very easy to replace, unless the rotor is glued on. Which mercruiser usually did but looks like you changed the rotor already. Good luck

If you are playing about with the dizzy, don't forget the timing. If you forget the timing, you could have fixed the original problem and reintroduced a new one. Also remember to mark up the dizzy if you remove, at least it helps get it the right way around. If you are 180 degrees out, you will be trying to ignite on the exhaust stroke and it will never start!
