Default Gas removal from 212 Shabah

Hey Guys,

First off its an honor to meet all you Mariah owners. I have owned my 2000 212 Shabah for 5 years now and its been a great experience. I do have a question that i hope I can get some help on. Due to some health issues last summer our boat never hit the water. So basically its been sitting for about 2 years. I put extra stabilizer in the tank and topped it off with fresh gas before winter storage last fall. I just got it out of storage a week ago , hooked up the battery and got her started with the muffs on in the driveway. It is very reluctant to idle. I have ran it for a while and put in about 10 gallons of fresh gas and 2 cans of seafoam, its somewhat better but still sluggish at idle. I have also tried to siphon out the tank with about 15 feet of hose, but it seems to get kinked up . Im still thinking its a fuel problem and want to get this old gas out. Any ideas. BTW its 5.7 litre Mercruiser 2bbl

Hello KC! I believe most stabilizers like Stay-bil. Can last up to two years with double the amount put in, but I think you have to do it on the initial application. Have you tried dirrectly using carb cleaner to flush out anything that might have gummed up?

    Firestone,

I doubled up on the Stabil last fall with the thinking it would be good for another year. I just sprayed some carb cleaner down the jets last night and ran it for about 1/2 hour. I still cant start cold start it with throttle in neutral. I have to giver her some gas to get it going for a while then I can let the throttle back to neutral position, however it is idling slow, I would say 5- 600, not at 7 to 800 where it should ( tach doesnt work) Sounds like I have a racing cam which is cool . Fuel tank looks like it is bear to be able to drain. Im assuming its under the floor.

Removal from what I read might involve cutting out the deck. Here is a thread that might help. Do some additional searches as well. How to drain my old gas?

Before I went to the trouble to drain out the gas, I would remove, drain, and refill the filter with new gas first before reinstalling it. The engine should idle quite a while on the new gas in the filter and be a fair indication of any stale/contaminated fuel problem.

The fuel tank is under the center of the rear seat. You should be able to see the filler pipe and outlet hose in the front of the engine compartment.

Do you have a carburetor or fuel injectors? It may be hard to tell the difference between the EFI throttle body and a carburetor to the casual observer. If it's F/I, have you checked for engine trouble codes yet?

Thanks Firestone , just ran it for the last hour , finally starting to idle faster . I'll let her sit until tomorrow and see if I got the bad fuel worked through

Thanks Garydoug , it's a 2bbl carb . I just mentioned to Firestone that it's finally running better after running it tonite . Will let her sit for 24 hours and check again tomorrow after work . Thanks for the pics , I'll refer back to those if this problem persists
