Being new to boating, I have a question about the electric hydraulic trim motor. If your're out boating on the lake, and the electric motor that operates the trim takes a dump on you, is there a way to manually operate the pump, so that you can raise the outdrive into the "trailer" position?

Sorry m&mmariah, but the answer is no. As far as I know, there isn't a way to manually operate the pump to create enough pressure to extend the rams and raise the outdrive into the trailer position. The alternative is to unbolt the rams at the outdrive and manually raise the drive up then tie it up so you can get it back on the trailer.

If you go this route, just be very careful , even a Alpha drive has some weight to it so make sure you have some friends to help and a strong rope or chain. If the outdrive should suddenly fall back down, you could end up damaging it and the gimbal as well.

WW's method sounds better than this but, I've heard that you can open the hydraulic system somewhere (ie. take off one of the hoses and stick it in a bucket) then lift the leg. It'll potentially make a nice mess but might be a feasible option if you're stuck in the water. I know it crossed my mind last season when my pump died.

Hi Dredd, I thought about that too and if you have enough room in the engine bay, disconnecting the hoses at the pump might be another option, though a messy one.... I figured unbolting was the simplest and quickest way to get that doggone drive up
