Those pics are awesome! Very few places on earth where the scenery is that intensely beautiful, the rich Blue Water against the Red Rocks! Wish we lived closer. We're planning an extended vacation next year, spending a 3+ weeks in Eastern Id, Yellowstone, Bear Lake and Pineview (Ogden Canyon). Looking forward to it already, wish I could get a few more days at Powell as well.

m&mmariah are you still going to Powell in Oct. We are planning to be there sometime 10/6 -14th. We are thinking of boat and beach camping with the kids. It may still warm enough in the water. Last I was there this summer the water was 83 deg.

Ok, we're finally headed to lake Powell! We'll be there the week of July 22nd. We've wanted to go there for several years, and were just able to make it happen this year. Of course, with our luck, the lake is at its lowest level in ten years! We live in California's Central Valley (Fresno), where it's dry all summer and we're into our 14th day of 100 degree weather. Weather reports say Page, az is having daily thunder storms! Dammit! Anybody know about these July storms? Do they last all day, or just for a little while? Is it safe on the lake or do we get lightening? We've been looking forward to this trip for quite some time and would hate to be rained out! Please advise as to what to expect. Thanks! I just got back from there. It was amazing. We only did 4 days there and that was a bad idea. Could have done a whole week no problem.
Do not worry about the storms there were there for us too. It is actually nice when they roll in. Keeps sun out of your eyes and it is plenty hot to enjoy the water still. Don't worry about the level being low, it is still insanely deep.
We stayed at Halls Crossing and managed to do about 100$ a day in fuel on average. Plan for that. Also I highly recommend you plan for one or two days in the Escalate arm of the lake. Its the most beautiful fresh water place I have even seen. Period. The water is almost iridescent. Just a crazy blue/green glow when the sun hits it. A snorkeled in there. We were there for one day, had lunch an came back to camp. I should have camped in the cove...

One more thing that comes to mind involves beer. Utah only sells 3.2 beer. Bring all the adult beer you can if you travel into Utah because the 3.2 beer in the heat will not cut it. I went as far as speed drinking four in a few minutes before I felt uncomfortably full and could not catch an enjoyable beverage buzz.

We plan to be on lake Powell on July 25,26,27 and 28, 2013. Since the lake is at about 4000 ft. in elevation, what prop should I put on? Running a 1996 Shabah 180 with a 4.3 4bbl carburator. I think the gear ratio is 1.81 to 1, the standard for a 4.3 alpha one set up. Currently have a 14.25 x 21 inch 3 blade aluminum prop on the boat. Thinking about putting on a 14 x 20 4 blade that I have. Also have a 14.25 x 19 inch. We're just going to be cruising, not towing anything. Looking for a max throttle rpm of around 4,600 to 4,800. Thanks in advance for any advice.

What elevation are you at , and what rpm's are you running now with the 21p prop m&m?

Colorado -- There are lots of man-made lakes in the near-by Sierra Nevada foot hills near our home, mostly in the 1000 to 1400 foot elevation. In those, the 3 blade 14.25 x 21 is perfect for the wot target rpm. At Shaver lake, the elevation is 5500 feet, and the 4 blade 14 x 20 is just right. At Lake Tahoe, 6500 ft, the 14.25 x 19 is good. But Powell, at about 4000 feet......hmmm, kind of half way between the 14.25 x 21 3 blade and the 14 x 20 four blade. I'm leaning to putting on the 4 blade. Either might be ok, but I'm leaning to the 4. I'm most likely obsessing on this, but it's fun to tweek the boat! Heck, since they're so easy to change, I'll take both on our trip! Thanks for any advice!
