Default Undersized trailer? - need advice

Alright, so after taking a look at " Gin Time's " project thread and looking how his Diablo sits on his trailer, it made me wonder if the trailer I currently have is really meant for a smaller boat..

Gin Time's Project thread:
Gin Times '92 Diablo 180

Reference Photso:

-----------
Now compare his to mine (cell phone photos.. heh):

Now, some notes:
1) I only paid $300 for it (brand new is around $2000)
2) When I bought the boat in 2006, it didn't come with trailer so I was stuck having the marina launch and remove in winter for the first few years I owned it.
3) When we did launch it recently, I did hear a "scrape" sound. Turned out the winch wheel sides dragged a couple inch scrape down the bow of the boat (the launch was very steep).

Now .......
Yes, it is a trailer.
Yes, it does get the boat from one place to other.
Yes, it was priced right at the time (last winter) for an older boat vs a new trailer.

Since I don't know if the trailer even has a GVWR plate on it, I'm purely basing my judgement off the photos and feedback from the users on here.

I know the boat is 2200lbs, plus the engine, any gas, any water, any gear and the trailer itself.
Which should bring me around what .. 2500lb+ ?

Thoughts? ... Thanks in advance

This trailer was the saving grace on my Mariah purchase. To me it is a bit overkill of a trailer. Wider axle, 15" tires and an extended tongue. However, I love this trailer with my 180 Diablo! It makes life so easy. I don't have to back my truck so far into the water when launching and driving any distance is a breeze. The trailer was originally made for this boat back in '93 and the rollers position it perfectly on the hull when taking her out of the water. Looking at your pics 180D I would say that trailer is undersized. However a short distance to drop in and take out should work fine.

Here is a couple pics of my Diablo trailer(kinda). It is the original that came with the boat. Pulls great and easy to load unload boat. Has 205/75R-14 tires. It has 4 bunks.
That trailer definately seems small to me.

    Sure like your boat though

Hey guys thanks for the replies.

Larry, love the original trailer. Wish I could find that..lol.

Well I finally got up to the cottage this weekend, had another good look at the trailer and there is no GVWR plate any where. Basically we came to the conclusion that this is truly a home made trailer, built for whatever boat used to be on it.

Ironically enough, my neighbours (at the cottage) walked over today to ask about the trailer since they don't have one for their boat and they need one within a month. They have a 16ft boat with outboard, which I feel should fit on my trailer better than it fits my boat. I know my boat is too wide and heavy for the trailer.

So now it's time for some quick looking and see if I can possibly unload this old trailer for a new or newer one at least.

    Undersized trailer no more !

Drove up north this afternoon with the wifey (about 20mins shy of my cottage) and ordered in a 2500lb Excalibur trailer for the Diablo (finally!). Similar to the one shown below.

If you do some thread searching no here, I have had my eye on this trailer for at least 2 years.

Now my old POS trailer is up for sale to my neighbours (providing this trailer comes into stock in the next few weeks that is).

    Zins likes this.

    Nice Ryan!
The Diablo ought to look great and be alot easier to load and unload. Not to mention pull nice now.
    Congrats!
