Re: What is the best pitch prop to run?
"GENERALLY" (before someone comes along and says mine doesn't work this way........) higher prop pitch means: increased top speed, lower rpms, reduced hole shot. Lower prop pitch means: lower top speed, improved hole shot & acceleration, increased rpms. For every inch change in pitch, you should result in a 200rpm change up or down. The goal is to keep your WOT rpms right at the top edge of the recommended range. IE: if your range is 4400-4800 WOT rpms then being between 4700-4900 at WOT is just about ideal.
Now, you can go too far with increasing & decreasing the pitch which will have severe negative effects not only on performance but on engine/driveline wear. Again, the idea is to stay within the recommended rpm range for your engine.
