Smile 2000 Z 272 Tach

I have a2000 Z 272 that I need to take out the tack and send in to be reparied. I don't know how to take out the dash? I don't want to mess up anything when taking the tack out.I thought I would get it fixed before next summer. Any help will be appreicated by me. Gary G

    Gary-
I took apart my dash before, and it's a pretty delicate process. (you can read my writeup here) The majority of the gauges have a plastic backing bracket that holds them in place. There are two nuts that hold the bracket against the dash plastic. It's very hard to see in this picture, but this is what the back of the tach looks like. If you're around the Cincinnati area with the boat, I'll be more than happy to help you get it properly removed. Otherwise, if you've got a digital camera, take photos of the wiring and how it's mounted first so you can have them for reference. If not, just make a diagram of where every wire is connected. It makes hooking everything back up a much less painful process.

    Thumbs up re: 2000 Z 272 Tach

CHRIS Thanks Chris for the quick reply about removing my tack. After reading about your very GREAT detailed and pictures of you project with your dash I think I will just live with a tack that only reads 500rpms.My dash is bigger than yours and think it could get into a really big job. Has anyone every had a tack stick and not go any higher?? There is a post on this site for people that were having problems with a sticking tach. There is a dial on the back of the tach that states 4,6,8 that is for 4cylinder 6cylinder and 8cylinder what you do is turn the dial back and forth a couple of times and then put it back to the original position and it should work fine after. Note: The little dial on the back has to be pushed in a little while turning it back and forth, good luck and hope this helps

There is a little access on my boat from the front seat, the back rest should lift up and you can look in and see the guages or you could lay under the dash and use a mirror to look in from the back side from under the dash good luck
