Default 2000 z244 ignition switch problem

Hi, I have a 2000 z244 I just recently purchased and it has a push button start where the ignition switch should be. I am sure its not factory and its wired wrong because the hour meter runs continuously unless you turn off the master power. Anybody know where to get proper ignition switch and do I have to remove dash to replace it.
Thanks for any sugestions and help

Hello I purchased a simple key ignition at west marine which came with two keys it was a simple install on a 302. I'm not sure if your model is significantly different but if you can see the original harness and trace out the wiring see if it's all there. I'm sure someone here can photo the wiring.
The run position should start the clock with an incorrect /rigged push button there may not be a proper run position so knowing more about the push button is required. It's a guess but it sounds as if power and run are wired together, at least as far as the clock is concerned. There should be three positions off run and start. Proper Engine Push buttons have this capability. how do you kill the engine now another push of the same button ? As far as access I was able to reach the 302 by removing the radio but I'm sure others here know your dash better for that info.

I kill the engine with the stop and Run button at the bottom of the gear selector, and I shut off the hour meter by turning the main battery switch in the back to the off position.I think the boat owner before the guy I bought it from changed it to the push buttonbecause the guy I bought it from told me he thought the hour meter is going up quicker than it should but he did not know why and he was not mechanically inclined in as soon as I got it I left the battery switch on overnight an hour meter jumped up 11 hours then I realized what had happened. When I get off work tonight I will start hunting up an ignition switchand try to get herfixed properly
