Just for giggles Paul , wire open the choke and try her.
Definitely sounds like a fueling issue.

Tried that and it would barely get started. Seems to idle better with the choke 3/4 closed. That made me think it was an idle screw issue. Messed with them and no dice

As long as you have a few nuts, bolts and screws left over after the job is done, it should work!

Nice job on the restoration and congrats on getting out on the water! Can't wait to get mine out of storage and get it going!

Haven't been on here in a while, but think I solved part of my carb problem. Took the carter AFB apart and noticed the two springs for the metering rods were different from each other. One took a lot more effort to compress down than the other. When idling, manifold vacuum keeps these rods pulled down into the jets, restricting the fuel flow. As you throttle up and vacuum decreases, the springs lift the rods out if the jets, allowing more fuel. I'm suspecting the stiffer spring is holding the rod out of the jets at idle/ slow speeds and allowing way too much fuel into the venturis and running rich. Still haven't found out why it's cutting out at wot or why it's hesitant on acceleration after running for awhile. Checked fuel and tank and new filter. All are very clean. Maybe it was trying to flood out since it was getting too much fuel anyways. We'll see.
