Default out drive

last summer i bought my first boat.its a 2003 sx19 with a 4.3 mercury engine.i have noticed that when i take off the rear of the boat sinks real low in the water, till i pick up some speed.what position should the out drive be in when u start.i just watch a video on this web site of a 2006 sx19 and the boat seem to be level from start to finish.that boat had a 3.0 engine.the driver on the video was seated from the start.i would never see the water if i satdown when i start off in my boat.

The outdrive should be completely down as far as possible when starting and when you reach a planing speed, you can then begin to trim it up to reach optimum performance. There are other contributing factors to how fast she will plane, like prop size and condition and some other things that will effect your performance too.

Zack's right on with his advice. Let us know what prop is on your boat too. The usual prop is a 14.25" x 19" 3 blade aluminum. If you have something with more pitch (like a 21" or higher) then that may cause it to bog down at the start.

While your here.......do a site search for "Smart Tabs". You will find numerous threads discussing their benefits. They will make a world of difference in your planing ability.
