Default Common transom leaks?

I've got a brand new to me 95 Z202 and it's leaking pretty bad in the transom. I was only able to see water dripping down the lower back transom wall on the inside of the bilge. I couldn't tell exactly where it was coming from. The marina is taking it out on Monday to find out exactly where it's coming from.

The guys on iboats.com think it's most likely a rotted transom. There are no cracks at all in the gel coat and you can jump on the drive and nothing moves at all.

Is there a common place that these boats leak? Something unique to a 90's Mariah?

I'm just trying to get an idea of how much this is going to suck.

Thanks guys,
Steve

That looks like a very nice boat, I would highly doubt it is the transom, it is most likely in the hoses and fittings in the outdrive. Turn it both ways and look inside to inspect these with a bright light, and possibly fill the bilge area with water and inspect while moving trim up and down while on the trailer. May need to remove outdrive for repair, but I would be surprised if much more than that.

    Let us know.

Most likely going to be the bellows leaking. It is a very common thing. With your outdrive in the up position you can inspect the bellows underneath for any cracks. It will require outdrive removal to replace them.

Check the outer housing to the drain - plug at the rear cooler or your ski rope locker, which ever you refer to it as, Mine had a leak in this location and was leaking in to the transom.

I had a leak through the outdrive pivot shaft seal. This is easily diagnosed in the water but more difficult out of the water. Water will be coming out of the cavity where the steering arm connects to the shaft. I had to remove the outdrive, bellhousing, and gimbal ring(everything but the transome mount) .
You can hope that it is just the shift or driveshaft bellows, or the leak from the aft cooler well as noted above.
