Default poor throttle responce

I just picked up a 1998 214 Jubilee 350 engine, with 68 hours on her. I took her out yesterday and she starts/idles fine but sometimes when you apply throttle the engine wants to cut out/almost off like she is not getting gas.

Now, if you feather the throttle she will pick up and run fine until you go back to idle for no wake zone.

I am new to the inboard/outboard world and am looking for direction. I did call the old owner back and he said the boat had been sitting.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris and welcome to the club!

Sounds like the accelerator circuit, can you tell us whether your 350 is Carbed or Fuel Injected?

    Thanks,

    WetWilly

Did you check the fule filter? How old is the gas? I just bought a 1992 and it did the same thing, they took the carb apart and the filter was plugged up as well as the carb was gummed up...

Classic symptoms of a warn-out accelerator pump.

I just posted in another thread here explaining it. Give me a moment... Found it!

When you accelerate a carbureted engine, the air gets moving faster more quickly than the gasoline flow does. This would result in fuel starvation, perhaps enough to stall the engine, were it not for a little pump in the carburetor, called an "accelerator pump," that squirts a bit of extra gasoline into the carburetor's throat(s) as the accelerator is advanced.

They eventually wear out and must be rebuilt.

Might be time for a carburetor rebuild. Something best left to somebody that knows their way around engines.
