Default Sticking Throttle Linkage

Looks like we have finally sorted out all the gremlins caused by our somewhat questionable service specialist here in Dubai, just have one last niggle to clear, hopefully the forum can lend some experience!

Idle from start is now perfect, no hunting, sits around a constant 650 and no stalls when cold. However after shifting into gear and dropping back to neutral the revs stick at just over 1000. Made for some pretty interesting docking yesterday!

Managed to have a quick look before the light faded and looks like the throttle itself is returning OK (when cable unhooked) but that the throttle return spring is not quite strong enough to force the cable back all the way.

I am wondering if they kinked the cable while they were putting the engine back in causing extra resistance. I've tried greasing up the exposed part of the cable and shifting back and forth to try and lubricate it a bit but no joy so far.

Has anyone else had anything similar? hoping I don't have to replace the whole cable. Will head down to the mooring for a better look later today, but would welcome any advice / thoughts..

SOLVED! - so just in case anyone else ever gets the same:

Looks like when they put the engine back in, they routed the throttle cable slightly differently which meant that there was more cable behind the engine than before and the curve was causing just enough extra resistance to stop that last couple of millimeters of return and leave the revs at 1000 rpm instead of around 650.

To fix I detached the cable from the carb, and made sure it ran aft of all other cables and hoses and that it had a straight run directly from the transom to the throttle linkage, then tied off with a couple of cable ties and a bit of electrical tape (to stop slip) against the telescopic light stanchion behind the starboard locker.

Now runs a treat and no lag... happy days!
