Default Bouncing trim guage?

I was wondering if anyone might know what would cause a trim guage to bounce. Mine acts as if is turning on and shutting off constantly, even when sitting completely still. Seems like something electrical, but where to begin?

Thank you!

If you search the forums, you'll find a thread about the trim sensor on the outdrive. Apparently sometimes they can be cleaned to bring them back to life. Also, you might find mercstuff.com's Trim Limit & Sender Switch Adjustments page helpful.

    Good luck,
    Jim

Well, I removed the trim sensor from the outdrive just a few minutes ago. I tried cleaning it and re-installing it, but to no avail. I disconnected it completely and no change in the guage whatsoever. It's as if the guage refuses to recognize that the sensor is even connected. Also, there is a white wire that is badly corroded even up into the sensor and the wire jacket is broken in several spots. Sounds like it's time for a new sensor.
