Help: Engine won't rev past 2500 RPM
Hi All!
I just purchased my '97 198 Shabah and joined the club about a month ago. I've spent hours reading the forums, and I really appreciate all the great information you've taken the time to post.
Now I have my first question: We were out last Saturday on the intracoastal, and after anchoring at the beach for about 4 hours, I started her up to bring her home. She started right up, but when I went to give it some throttle, it wouldn't rev up past ~2500 RPM. It ran fine below that, and the throttle lever kept moving forward, but the revs just wouldn't climb. I made it back to the dock going about 10 mph, but it was a long trip!
A little background: I have the 4.3L/Alpha I package. It was harder than usual to get it started at the beginning of the day. Also, I did run the prop through a sandbar on the way out (unfortunately, not uncommon at low tide around here), but it seemed to be running ok before we anchored.
My first thought is a clogged fuel filter, but if anyone has any other suggestions, I would love to hear them.
Thanks for any help!
