Default Help Solving This Problem W/ 1998z-210

Ok, Recently Encountered A Problem With All These Components Simulanteously:

Radio Stopped Working,
Radio Power Antenna,
6 Cd Remote Disk Changer,
Power Hatch For Engine Compartment,

All Failed At Same Time.

Not Getting Power To All Three.....

Therefore I Removed The Radio And Switch Panel To Look For Fuse Locations. All Fuses Checked Good But Replaced Due To Age. 5 Yrs +.

Still No Power.
Looked Near Battery, In-line Fuse Checked Good And Also Replaced.

Good Battery, And Above Items Will Not Work With Or Without Engine Started.

Hint: All Of This Happened After I Blew A Power Steering Line In Engine Compartment. Power Steering Fluid Went All Over Engine Area When Line Blew. Maybe This Has Something To Due With The Power Hatch Shorting Out Because There Is Two Connections Back There. This Is Easy To Repair......

But I Do Not Understand Why The Radio, Power Antenna, Cd Changer Have All Lost Power......

Any Thoughts- Thanks, Frank

Hmmm, the only thing all of those should have in common is the ground to the main ground bus. In my '98 Talari its located behind the starboard battery. There should be a 10 gauge wire running from it to one of your batteries. Then it will have a number of grounds shooting off to various locations. I'd check there. A good way to test is to run a temp ground straight from the battery (-) to the bus and see if it helps.

The other possibility is that someone jumped your stereo off of the hatch (+), Mariah's do a lot of daisy chaining with their positives, so if you get a bad connection or corrosion it takes out everything 'downstream'. I's really track the (+) to each of those items in the dash, and if it looks like ther aren't daisy chained then its most likely ground related.

I had exhaust hose leak that caused water all over the engine and in the bildge. Same type thing happened middle of last year.

Bottom line... stereo and gages malfunctioned. Once I corrected the water issue everything started working correctly. Sounds like a short from the steering problem fluid.
