Default Power Seat Switch Help

The PO replaced the OEM switch rocker for a standard marine grade replacement because he said the original stopped working. I hooked up the seat wiring last night and the aftermarket switch only works in one direction. By swapping the wires at the motor I can get the seat to go forward or back, so the motor is fine.

Well during my poking around I found the original switch! I brought it to work today to see about ordering a replacement, but for kicks I decided to crack it open to see if I could fix it. I opened it up and there is not even a hint of corrosion on the inside. Pretty straight forward design with no visible issues. Spades are a little dirty but nothing major.

So now I'm thinking there is a bigger issue going on with the wiring, or else why would've the PO have had problems in the first place? Before I tear the entire panel out I was hoping that someone might enlighten me on how the system is supposed to work exactly. The switch has 6 posts, but the seat motor only has 2.

Thanks!

Try plugging the new one in again. It could have had corrosion on the terminal itself, causing the PO to just replace it.

I think your motor and wiring are fine by getting it to work when swapping connections at the switch. I bet your "new" switch has gone bad as well. Try the old one, if it doesn't work, look on our parts list page and order a new one. As you know, they're quite simple to replace.

If "hard wiring" to the power source works, it's got to be the switch.

The factory seat switch in my Z216 is actually a Carling rocker switch, very commonly available (they come is many variations, so make sure you get a double pole double throw version). The covers are interchangable so if you have the 'seat fwd / back' written cap then u can swap it onto a normal blank carling switch, I think its the J series of switches, or maybe the V, their website should tell you what u need.
