Cool Smart Tab Help

Hi all,

Trying to decide my tab route here. I installed a set of the hydraulic Bennett's on my dad's 20' Maxum and have been fairly happy with the results. Though I find that we don't really use them much once you get them dialed in. So I'm leaning on going the smart tab route on my Mariah. So my questions are:

- They are technically rated for only 240HP. Will this be a problem on my 300HP, 3000LB+ 21' boat?

- If I decide to swap in Bennett's down the road, will I be able to nicely remove the Smart Tabs and maybe reuse some of the same holes? If not, how hard is it to fill the old ones?

- Stainless or composite? Any advantage / disadvantage to either? I found a good deal on the composites but didn't know if it was a good idea.

Thanks!

I suspect that you might be pushing the limits on the Smart Tabs with your boat but they may be okay with the 80# actuators and i would likely go with the S.S. version for yours. John at Nauticus can give you some specific advice for your application if needed. I doubt very much that the holes for the Smarties will match up with the Bennett holes although with a little careful filling and gel coat repair it shouldn't be a problem.

This is something I have really been thinking about.. I will be running the boat loaded a good portion of the time. The smart tabs seam to be a no brainer.. But I would definately be interested in any advise that you folks have.. I have been looking also at going to a lower pitch prop to help out as well.. Are the smart tabs worth the money?

Damm, does a bear fart in the woods? The Smart tabs will work wonders most of the time. I would just do one change at a time though and see how things work out. No point in spending money when you dont really need to.
