Default Silent choice question

Hi all been awhile since I have been I have been on here did searchs and found some great posts for some of the stuff needing repaired thanks.

My question is when I flip to silent choice it does nothing it is always in silent mode? Is there a circuit breaker or reset for this I have checked everything except for getting the volt meter out and testing any suggestions.

Also this is a battery question and I did get some great tips from here that I am going to use but here is my problem while idiling I can switch to the second battery but as soon as I do it kills the motor and wont restart so I flip back to other battery and no probs both batteries have been checked and are good and are deep cycles I bought new in the spring thinking that maybe the battery disconnect switch maybe be bad again need to get meter out just thought I would ask for suggestions thanks all

Gregg

If it's a factory setup, i believe the diverter valves are electronically controlled by solenoids. (Mercruiser's silent choice system uses air actuators, to the best of my knowledge, Mariah used Corsa's system) There should be a reset somewhere in the system for it. It is quite possible that the solenoids are burned out considering the age of the boat. Look for a fuse, and then I'd grab the closest volt meter and start taking readings to see if it's getting power to the solenoids at the diverters.

As for your battery issue, I've never heard of it actually stopping your motor. How are you switching it? from battery 1 setting to off setting to battery 2 setting? maybe try moving the switch from battery 1 position to the both position, then to battery 2 position? That's what it recommends doing in the battery switch manual.

Hopefully this helps, and let us know what you find out!

I've heard to NEVER switch the settings while the engine is running! Something to do with grounding or shorting the alternator and doing serious damage to it and/or the batteries, but I don't remember the exact reason.

You're right Indykoch, I forgot some switches didn't have the AFD, or Alternator Field Disconnect option!

272man, Can you get the make and model number of your switch so we can try and help you out?
