I had the boat out this weekend. Runs great but with the oil res in plugged it still beeps intermittently. I asked a guy at the lake an he seemed to think there are different beeps for the different alarms like solid for oil an temp issues. Have not confirmed that.
Another suggestion was to connect the two ends I unplugged from the oil res. I just have them out of the way.
With it unhooked I'm curious if it could be a temp sensor seeing as the beeping starts at higher rpm. Does the 7.4 have two temp sensors? One for the gauge an one for the alarm?

Have you checked the float switch in the gear lube reservoir? Found this while doing a site search for "Alarms"

Did you clean that oil float in the tank? And I am not sure about the 7.4 but I know that my 6.8 has 2 temp sensors. One on either side of the thermostat housing.

Thanks Mikey, I have recently cleaned the air filter. It was not too bad. That was when I got the boat back in Feb.
As for cleaning the res, I also did that when rebuilding the outdrive prior to filling with fresh oil.
I'm starting to lean towards the temperature alarm sensor. As in the sensor is faulty. I will make sure it even has one on mercruiserparts.com

While snooping around last night I found a pretty cool PDF about the codes. I had been looking through the Mercruiser literature and could not come up with answers for my questions. Might make a good sticky!
