Maybe it's just me but it seems like there is too much movement in the throttle lever before rpms increase. The outdrive will engage right away but say Neutral is 12 o'clock, I won't get moving faster than idle until the lever reaches about 10 o'clock. New to boating so like I say, maybe it's just me, or the cables need adjusting.

It does sound like the cables might need adjusting, but I am no expert on that. Mine is moving pretty good at the 10 position. Do you know what your top end is? Or how many RPM's you are at at WOT(Wide Open Throttle)?
