Can you be more specific about what works or doesn't work (i.e. does the needle move at all, wher does the needle lie? You can disconnect the pink (red) wire atop the sending unit and ground it, That should put the needle at max if the gauge is functional at all.

I think he's probably going to say that his needle bounces around, all over the gauge. There is a fix for that and you will need to use the forum search tool to look back about a year. It had to do with installing a resistor inline with the fuel gauge to dampen the swinging needle.

To be correct it was a capacitor between the sender terminal and ground.

    hi steve
thanks for the reply, the needle does not bounce it doesn't read correctly. the boat is not with me so I do not have time to tinker with it. it is at my holiday destination. so I want to take new parts down to fit them as I think that may be the quickest solution. Because it is an American boat I can purchase the parts from you guys in the USA and take them with me

    many thanks

Well..... if that's all..... I would say the sending unit/float switch needs replacement.....
