If i ever have to charge my battery i always disconnect it and pull it from the boat before hooking up the charger. A mistake or a problem with the battery might lead to an explosion......and i'd rather not have that happen.

I wouldn't see any issues with it. Think about this... The alternator charges the battery while the boat is running, and everything's still hooked up to it!

My boat came with a single bank battery charger equipped from the factory. You just plug a 3-prong extension cord into the jack on the transom and it charged the battery. I replaced it in 2007 with a 2-bank charger, so it charges both batteries instead of just one. Never had a problem with charging at all.

Depends on the charger too. Some chargers use a higher voltage periodically to charge the battery faster, and to help try and recondition it. It can get as high as 16 volts, and some electronics will not be able to handle that voltage if they are turned on. If everything is off, you should be ok, but if you flip a switch, it could damage something.
Also, some chargers will overcharge or boil the batteries, so pay attention to that.

I Do charge my batteries in my boat but with plenty of ventilation and air movement.
