Re: Outdrive tried to jump ship
Sounds like the shift arm might not be in the right place.
Not real sure on the VP drives , but gotta be in forward gear on the Merc drives. I'll do some searching , and in the meantime , maybe one of the VP boys will chime in with a answer. :) Update: Looks like you need the shifter in neutral. |

Re: Outdrive tried to jump ship
Thank you for the reply I was thinking the same thing last night so we pulled the drive shaft off the drive uint so we could slide it in and out easy. its stoping just before the o-rings

Re: Outdrive tried to jump ship
You did realign the gimble to the motor right? ( Don't mean to seem anal)
It almost sounds like a alignment issue. If it isn't just right it won't go in. Is it possibly hanging on the inside of the driveshaft boot? I'll continue to look for a solution.:wink_thumbup: |
Re: Outdrive tried to jump ship
yes aligning gimbal to motor ill go by the shop and get a pic tonight. im on shift tomorrow so ill have a ton of time to research too.

Re: Outdrive tried to jump ship
I found the process in the "Volvo Outdrives Workshop Manual" here on MOC.
Go to page 132 and see if that looks familiar. VP drives are a whole new ball of wax for me , sorry. :( |

I've been reading the manual thanks for having those on here for us.
Here's the parts I'm fighting. The drive shaft only slides in as far as the shine spot on the shaft. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD |
Re: Outdrive tried to jump ship
Did you try fitting the gimble bearing to the shaft before you installed the bearing?
Is there possibly an old O-ring in the groove inside the housing? Does your alignment tool seat all the way in? Maybe mike the driveshaft bearing area with calipers to make sure it's round? Burrs maybe? Bent shaft? Stuff you probably already thought of ..........but maybe! How far are you from Denver? Road trip to see this cluster!! Gotta be something simple!! |
Re: Outdrive tried to jump ship
Crazy how most of us on here think the same. I did do all that and it fits great till you put them all together. Ok here's where you guys get to poke me. I didn't buy the tool I'm using the drive shaft itself to align it. The tool was nothing more then a drive shaft with no yoke. So I didn't see the $140 need for it. But I'm going to pay somebody Monday that I know to fix it. Lol

Re: Outdrive tried to jump ship
Should have worked. I'm wondering if the shaft isn't bent.
Did it eat a U-joint or two? Weird ass stuff for sure!! Sorry I couldn't help more. Make damn sure you let us know what you find.:wink_thumbup: |
