Default Short Distance Launch

I have a 6 cylinder 2010 Chevy Traverse that does not have a factory tow package. Thinking about installing a Class III receiver to use in a pinch for launching my '98 242Z Shabah. I have about 3/4 mile from covered storage to the boat ramp. I have a Ford F250 7.4 Diesel that is a gas hog for my 150 mile trip to lake home, not wanting to drive it every weekend. Any feedback is appreciated.

The std Traverse has a towing capacity of 2000 lbs.
Your 242 weighs in at 4100 lbs by itself. Add trailer , Fuel , gear , etc your pushing 5500-6000 lbs if not more.
It might pull it the 3/4 mile , but I bet it won't pull it out of the water without burning up a tranny if even then.

Yeah the tow package includes a tranny cooler and has a 5000lb. tow capacity. So My thinking was the vehicle itself (AWD) would support a heavy load for a short distance just not equipped for a long pull. Maybe not.

My other alternative is to leave the truck at the lake all summer, but sure as I do I'll be needing the truck.

    Thanks for your response.

What's it going to cost to get a tow package added? I wouldn't even consider pulling your boat anywhere with that truck without a towing package.

For sake of argument, we have a 2009 Traverse LTZ with all wheel drive and the towing package. I have a '95 Barchetta 192 that it will pull effortlessly 80 mph down the interstate. It has no problem pulling it up a boat ramp either. After using it to pull with I'd rather use it than my truck......and it gets better fuel mileage. Just to give you an idea its not underpowered, etc. It doesn't hunt gears or sound like its straining. I'd say it'd be worth checking out, especially since you'll be going such a short distance.

Ahh yes good to hear from a Husker Fan. Thanks for telling me about your experience with the Traverse; I feel like they've got more than enough power. But it's quite a load like others have said. I don't think they (w/o tow pkg) were made any differently engine/tranny/frame/etc. than one equipped w/factory tow pkg. I may hook up to it and pull it around the block and see how it feels. I need a receiver for small trailer anyway.

Thanks again to ALL, and if I do it and burn something up, I probably won't be tellin it!
