For those of you with a 272, I was wondering what the GVWR is for your trailers?

Here is why I ask... last year I bought a 98' Z 272. The boat sits on a Road Runner brand double axle trailer with a GVWR of 7,000 pounds. I would assume that the trailer has 2-3500 pound axles as they are five bolt hubs. It doing some further digging I noticed that the trailer was at one time an OEM for a Baja 272 which is quite a bit lighter than the Mariah and has been modified to fit my boat. A rough calculation - 5650 lbs net wgt of boat + 800 lbs fuel + 1000 lbs gear + 1500 lbs wgt of trailer = 8950 lbs.

I am considering replacing the current leaf spring axles with heavier torsion ones. I often pull 100 miles or so to the lake and want to be sure I have safe reliable equipment!

apickens99 I have 2000 Z 272 SHABAH OPEN BOW 7.4 MPI BRAVO 111. I took my boat over to the truck stop and put it on the scales ,with a full tank of gas. Our Z sits on an Tri-axel trailer and it weighted 8,400 pounds. I think my boat weight is around 6200 lbs.You can see my rig in the gallery under Gary G 2000 Z 272. I hope this will help you. Gary G

Most axles are stamped with a weight rating on them (underneath the boat on the actual tube) but if you can't find it, you can pull your wheels/hubs and check your bearing numbers. A quick web search for bearing kits should tell you your axle rating.
