Default Bent prop shaft!!

Well... I hit something! I have a SS prop so of course there was no give there. It looks like I will be replacing the prop shaft. It is a Mercruiser Alpha one Gen 2. Has anyone tackled this job before that might have some pointers? or pictures? Or is this something that I should not even attempt. I am pretty handy with a wrench when it comes to cars, but I know nothing when it comes to outdrives! Looking for some help.

Thanks,

Sparknwilly

Fortunately i've never had to do that job but....have a look at the "How Do I" Merc stuff site & you should find what you are looking for.

I did the same thing and ultimately had it replaced by a Merc. mechanic. I was told by another mechanic that you had to have a special tool to get the shaft out. Not sure if that is true, but it was enough to scare me. I paid around $650 for the work and parts ( shaft, seals, bearings). Good luck and if you do it yourself, don't forget to post the results.

Thanks for the info. I didn't that it would be that cheap for labor and parts. I might call around to see if there is someone who can do it for that price or something close. If not it looks like I will be posting some "How to" pics myself! LOL! Thanks for all your help guys!
