I've seen a thread awhile back with instructions of how to modify the engine cover's gas struts and brackets (or something to that effect), to make it raise higher for additional clearance...can anyone point the thread to me? I searched the whole site but could not find it.

So, noone knows where the thread went...? I am sure I saw it somewhere on this site a couple of months ago.

I remember the original poster explained that, by flipping (or inverting) the gas strut brackets, the engine cover/tanning pad will raise higher, making the task of working in the engine compartment a lot easier and spacious.

Anyone knows the steps exactly to accomplish this project?

Sorry, but I've tried to find any threads/posts referring to the flipping the brackets for the gas struts, but I'm not having much luck either...

From what I know of the typical gas strut mounting brackets, you can't flip the upper brackets and if your able to flip the lower one, it would probibly give you only an inch at the most as they are normally triangular in shape with a small peg to mount the strut on.



Your options would be to relocate your existing brackets to allow the hatch to open more or to install a longer strut. Just be careful that you make sure you have enough distance between the brackets when the hatch is closed for the length of the strut your using or you'll end up jamming the brackets into the strut and no telling what damage that will create.

Is it possible you saw a post about the brackets for the electric/hydraulic lifts or moving the brackets for more clearance?

After a second and closer search of the site, I was able to find the thread.

It basically says to change the placement of the lifting arms, or turn the holding brackets around, (or upside down), like you also suggested.

I'll try these two options first and see how much clearance I actually gain, otherwise, I will try replacing the struts for longer ones, but taking into consideration the heads-up precautions you point out.

Glad you found the thread! Wow no wonder I couldn't find it...over 9 months old and "lifting arms", never would have thought to look for that one!
