Unhappy Sun Deck / Engine Cover

Let me see if I can explain this right. The rear deck that covers the engine has head rests attached for back seats. This came loose on my Z235 Talari. I removed deck and reattached and reattache head rests. Now the bar at the back of the seats should this lip that the head reasts attach to. should it lay on top of the bar or fit in front of the bar. Did I explain this right???

    Hi Acadianbasic,

Do you have any pictures of your headrest and seats as I assume you have three head rests, correct?

Now, if I understand you correctly, the lip (bar) the head rests are attached to should sit over the bar of the back seat to prevent the seat from hinging forward while the boat is in motion as the sun deck should be closed while moving.

I have a 96 Z240 and I believe we have similar head rests and back seats, I will take a look at ours tomorrow and I’ll let you know what I find.

    Hi Acadianbasic,

Well, it looks like I was wrong... the wooden (bar) part of the headrest does not overlap, but rather sits over the wooden back of the bench. As you can see in this (poorly done) representation, the headrest sits down and overlaps the padded section of rear bench back. This is what prevents the rear bench from hinging forward while the sun deck is closed.

Hope this is the info you were looking for, if not, I'll try again.

Yes that helps a lot. By the ilustration the bottom of the sun deck rests on the wooden bar that runs behind the seat. Thats the way I have it. I believe I may have repositioned the head rests a little high as they do not touch the top of the seat.

On my 202Z, the sun deck headrests sit on top of the seat and in front of the stationary bar behind the seats. See the attached photos.

i am in the middle of replacing the wood in my headrests also
    Mariah didnt make it easy
everything is covered glued over bolts, what a pain in the arse
im trying to figure out how in the hell i am going to put it back together

    you guys ever do this?

the nut is under the cushioning, which is glued on, which is under the vinyl which is stapled on
the wood around my nuts was rotted so i cant seem to deduce how they did it
i was thinking about gluing the nuts in place to hold the bolt while i screw into it
because the cushion and vinyl will have to be on as tightening the bolt covers the vinyl staples

this is probably hard as hell to understand without pictures

    Default back sun deck removel

i have a 240Z and have taken off the sun deck engine cover to tighten the head rest, found the wood on the bottom where the bracket hold the sundeck engine cover was starting to rott, make specail stainless steel plate with 1/4" nuts welded on to screw in bolt fron the outside into the bracket, but before i reupoholsted, i sealed and fiber glass the wood from rotten in the future.
