Default 98 Jubilee no low end power

hi all I have a 1998 204 Jubille that I just bought and I cant get it to plane with more than three people in it. it just drags its butt at about 10mph. it has a carbed 4.3 merc and alpha one out drive with 1.81 gear ratio. I just put a 16 pitch 4 blade prop on it with no help it did have a 19 3 blade. the engine runs beautiful. I know its a big boat but you would think to expect more out of it. I really love this boat I just want to get it dialed in and have fun thanks everyone

Where are your people located when taking off? In the back, or front, or scattered throughout the boat? Try moving everyone forward until you can plane.

Also, kind of a long shot, but when was the last time you changed the spark plugs? I had some issues getting on plane earlier this year, when it was just me by myself, it'd run fine, but whenever I'd add more passengers, it'd bog down and I couldn't get it above 3000rpms. Changed the plugs, distributor cap, and rotor, and it runs like a champ now! For about $50 maybe it's worth a try?

    I'm running a 4.3 carb with a 1.81 and I'm using a 19P 4 blade with great results.

Chris, this is the same thread/subject/poster that's in the Mercruiser section.
