Default No dc power

Hey all

After getting home from our sunday trip I was cleaning out the boat and noticed the clock had stopped. After looking around I noticed I had no power anywhere. Nothing works no dc power anywhere. The battery is new " but maybe shorted" it will run the inflator pump off of the battery terminals. I visually checked the fuses at the battery and they look fine. Is there any other main fuse or breaker on the ship? All the breakers under the dash are recessed "not popped out" I will have to see if a main wire broke some where under the engine compartment like the older 240 volvos did.
Any help or suggestions would be great. Just glad it didnt happen on the water.

Sorry, I'm not going to be much help here...

Since the inflator pump works, I'd have to think the battery is fine. Check for corrosion and make sure the terminals are TIGHT. Other than that, I'm lost as well. I don't know of a single, main fuse or breaker that would cover absolutely everything, but who knows. Let us know if/when you find the problem... I hope its something simple!

You might try cleaning the battery contacts with a "battery brush". There's a photo below of one. You can pick them up at any auto parts store, clean both the battery and the connection wires. Do you have a battery selector or a master power switch? There's a few fuses there. They're usually the first to go in a situation like that.

Also, I know it sounds stupid, but were the wires hooked up to the right terminals on the battery?

Hey I was looking at what you posted.

Do you have a multimeter and are you proficient in its use? Electricity is like plumbing you have to start at the beginning and make sure your "water (electricity)" is flowing. Start at the Positive post and the negative post. you will see 12.5VDC approx.

then move to the Negative bus bar and attach the ground for the meter. Then start checking the down stream side of the battery switch.

If I had to guess I would say you either lost a breaker, a fuse or the switch right after the battery.

You said you can power the inflator on the battery directly so that indicates that you have power coming from the battery. How much? Not that it makes a big difference.

If you get no power anywhere else on the boat then your main Plumbing line (battery connections) are faulty.

Check before oand after every major connection. When you find that you have power on one side and not the other you found the problem.

Don't mean to be talking down your intellect on this if you already know all of this. Just trying to help save some time for you.

    good luck!
    Chris
