Default Bow speakers

Anybody put bow speakers in a 302? Any way to tie in the cockpit stereo to the mid cabin speakers?

I think that Oregondunes has done some rework of the sound system in his 302 so hopefully he'll chime in here sooner or later...

    Doaclnr,

Is your 302 not already equipped with Bow speakers? Mine has 2 factory speakers mounted there (along with 4 more in the cockpit area) that are all driven by the cockpit head unit. I have since replaced them all with JL 6" speakers.

I believe in the factory setup, the 4 speakers in the cabin are all connected to the head unit mounted under the televsion also in the the cabin.

If I understand your question, you want all 10 speakers to run off the cockpit head unit, correct? If so, this is a fairly simple fix. It'll just take money Look for a marine head unit that has AT LEAST two sets of RCA outs (3 is better in case you want to add a sub later.) One example is the Kenwood KMR-355U. I have the RCA outs from my cabin head unit connected to a 600 watt amp mounted flat along the "floor" of the cabinet area underneath the tv/audio area. This amp powers the four speakers in the cabin and fills it with whatever the cockpit head unit is playing. All four cabin speakers' wire congregates in this cabinet area anyway, so after the power cables and RCA were run for the amp, hooking up the speakers was a breeze. The area stays dry, and as long as you don't pile all kinds of crap in there, stays cool enough to allow the amp to ventilate.

Perhaps I misunderstood your question, but if not, good luck! If I did, I apologize and feel free to clarify. I'm more than happy to try and help.

My bow has no speakers. My 272 didn't either. I was just wondering how hard it is to run wire up to the bow and how to do it... Thanks woodward33 that helps for the midcabin speakers!

I'm almost certain that you will find the wiring is already in place for the bow speakers.

    That's interesting.

Factory speaker position was on both the vertical walls (port and starboard) in the footwell of the bow area. The speakers are facing directly at each other if that makes sense? My speaker wire consists of one purple wire and one white wire (my boat is a 1999.) It is run up to the bow of the boat along the starboard side bundled in with the wiring for the nav light, the horn, and the docking lights.

If its not already there (which would surprise me, but then again I'm surprised you don't have bow speakers) its not too hard to get up there. Try running it between the outer & inner hulls along the starboard side. Pull out the stereo and drop the wires down. Then if you remove the microwave (held in by 4 screws screwed up from the bottom) or the sink (just two screws) you can grab the wires and snake them off to the side. May be able to remove the horn on the exterior of the boat and get a stiff piece of wire in there to grab them as well. From there, you should be able to use a long piece of stiff wire from under the side bow cusions and try to grab that wire. Is any of this making sense to anybody, or just me

If you've never cut a circular hole in fiberglass before, you may want to leave that to a pro. Its not all that difficult, but its easy to screw up.

    Hope that helps a little.

Clear as mud! LOL I get it... Doesn't sound too bad... I did put new speakers in my 272 and used a dremel to make the openings bigger for the speakers. I would imagine that would work for the new holes. Thanks for all the help! Might work on it this weekend if we don't go to the lake...
