It could. Check this out: Phase separation in gasoline containing ethanol

That's about 220ml of liquid, about 45ml of which is an alcohol/water solution. So, conservatively: 20% water/alcohol.

The 240Z Talari has a 76 ga. fuel tank. That means, potentially, up to 15 ga. of alcohol/water.

Note the comment by the guy that posted that picture: "This was drained out of my snowthrower after a summer of storage."

Regardless: The OP is going to have to get the fuel tank empty completely, which is tricky, because not even the fuel pickup gets it all.

Speaking of which: According to the place we have Shazaam! winterized: The best way to get the fuel out is by hooking a fuel pump to the fuel line.

Thanks SEMIJim. Trying to get the last of the fuel out in between rain showers. I turned it over a few times and the filter was full of water, so I'll keep pumping it out. I let ya know what I find at the bottom of the barrel.

Ok, I am stuggling to figure this out. I totally emptied the tank and put in 20 gallons of ethanol free 93. It started and ran really rough agian with a lot of dark smoke. I have not checked the plugs to see if they are fouled, but plan to do tomorrow. Any other suggestions? Coil or Disctributor?
    Thanks!

Just when you think you have it solved...I checked the fuel pump amber line which takes gas from the pump to the carb just in case the top diaphram gives up. It was dumping fuel like crazy into the carb and no gas was getting to the jets. Ordered a new one and hope to have it by Wednesday. We shal see...

Diaphragm in pump has a hole in it.
Little to no fuel pressure if it's pumping out fuel like that.
Nice catch! Bet she'll run like a top with a new one!
    Let us know the outcome.

Update. I replaced the mechanical pump and fuel filter last night and it started right up and idled with no problem. However, under a load at 3K, it tops out and quits accelerating. It feels starved of fuel. Is there a tank filter at the bottom of the pickup? My next option is the carb.
