Default Another motor swap question

I have a 93 Barchetta with a 4.3LX at 205 HP, Alpha One, Gen2. I can get 50 mph @ 4800 rpm with 4 people, full fuel (30 gal) and a cooler full of adult beverages. I have a 23 pitch prop. Previously I had a 21. The 21 only got 45 mph @ 5400 rpm. The issue is pulling skiers. It wont pull 1 slalom skier out of the water much less 2 skiers. I do not want to re-prop with a 19.
When the time comes, what would be a good motor swap for this boat? Can it fit a 5.0?
I am very attached to my boat and I do not want to get a another boat at this time. Any suggestions?

Probably should have started another thread Weezer , but.......
What Barchetta do you have? LOA?
Are you switching weight to the front when pulling skiers? What is your elevation? 23P sounds awful high for a 4.3. How is it out of the hole when you aren't pulling a skier?
It definitely sounds like a pain in the butt , but(no pun intended) you gotta have other issues somewhere I think.
Is your tach right? Make sure it is correct before you make any decision.

    My thoughts exactly.

If u are running a 23" prop and actually hitting 50mph then you are doing extremely well. Was this speed checked with a GPS? Even running a 21" prop and hitting 5400rpms is unusual as most 4.3's would be down around 4600 with that prop at WOT. Have u had some work done to the motor or was it replaced with a newer unit? 205 hp isn't usual for a '93 - 4.3LX either as they normally came in 180hp (2bbl) or 190hp (4bbl) versions. My understanding is that the 205hp figure is the rating at the flywheel and not at the prop. Do you know what gear set you have in the outdrive?

First of all, your right. I should have started a new thread. I didn't mean to hijack this one. Sorry.

My boat hit 50mph according to my GPS. However, I do not usually try to go that fast.
I am nor sure exactly what was done to my boat. I think I am the 3rd or 4th owner.
In fact I think a previous owner changed the gear ratio or something.
As far as the HP, all I know is the title states 205 hp. And yes, I know, that could mean anything.
The boat preforms very well, however the boat does not get out of the hole that well when pulling skiers. Maybe I am just a lousy skier. I was redlining with lower pitch props.
I was just curious if a larger motor will fit in this boat. I am not going to change it today, this is for future planning.
As far as what Barchetta do I have, all I know it is not a MX. Thanks for all of your input.

Get us some drive numbers if ya can Weezer. Mikey could be right with thinking it has been changed. Usually on the port or left side of the boat(case you didn't know). But , someone could have changed the ratio in the existing drive too. A quandry for sure.
I had a 4.3 cobra in another boat that acted wierd , and come to find out it was geared for a 2.3/3.0 motor.
    What length is your boat?
