    After a little research I found that all Bravo drives (and possibly some others) have a tini hole in the nose of the drive for speedometer use. The paddlewheel is indeed for the trip meter.
    Funny thing is the salesman I bought my boat from thought the paddle wheel was the speedo sensor also. lol. Since he's a second generation marine salesman... I don't feel quite so ignorant now. lol.
