Default Wiring a New Rado

I installed a Sony CDX-M10 which had a Red Wires for a constant 12V Connection and a Yellow Wire for an Accessory Switch.

The previous radio, was connected to the Accesory Switch ONLY, there fore I connected both the red and the yellow to the Accessory Switch.

Now I do loose all of my setups, better then nothing. Need a Constant 12V connection, does any one have a suggestion as to what I should be looking for?

Be nice

Good News, while under the dash, I did discover wires for aft speakers, but haven't had time to trace them.

One projct at a time...

As always, who ever responds, your input is greatly appreciated.

No worries, this forum is a GREAT place to ask these questions!

Here's my suggestion; get a electrical tester if you don't have one already.

Find the small fuse block directly behind the steering wheel and up under the dash moulding. Use your electrical tester (when the key is in the 'off' position or even out of the ignition ensure that the fuse block lights up and shows current. Once you do that select a new spot on the block and drop in a 10 Amp fuse and attach using a wire connector you can get at any auto parts store.

This coming weekend I am going to install my new Sony and will take pictures.

Let us know how you come out.

I installed my new stereo today and used a voltmeter and found power in accessory and constant mode. On my Mariah the 12V cigarette lighter adapter below the air/sea temp gauge is accessory only power. I pulled constant power from the existing wire in the stereo area, and connected the stereo 'illumination' wire to the courtesy lights by using a tap connector.

Are you making any progress with yours?

    Default Sony Radio

My company sent me on the road for a week, so I haven't been able to get back to it. Its working, but I have the Yellow wire and the Red wire tied together which only works with key on or accessory. I haven't secured them yet. I will have to get my volt meter out and find a constant power connection.

In addition, when I went to replce the speakers, the connectors were different size for the power, so I have to get those now.

I will be back home next week and plan on finishing it up so we can go out and test them on the water, really looking forward to that.

    Default Install complete!

I wasn't able to get a power reading with my VOM off the cut wires in the main harness, however I found a nice auxillary fuse bus under the dash with several open slots for the power. I put both the red and yellow to power and black to ground. Works fine! Aux input for the iPod is a must!

    Default Install Almost Complete

    Good Morning
I found a hot lead that was available and tied off my yellow wire, and then my red wire to the accessory switch, which was the same lead I used before. Now my memory function works perfectly.

The previous owner had located the speakers under the dash of the helm area, port and starboard. On the Starboard side the new speaker was easy to install, but the port side he had cut the hole a little higher and these Sony speakers are deeper, so I have to lower the hole about an inch to make the new speaker fit.

I will get that done this weekend.

Thanks for all of your support and help. Knowing that the club is here for me really makes the job's easier.

I do have another issue with my Blower, its not working. Going to review the wiring this weekend, since its going to rain on Saturday, doesn't look like I am going to get out on the water.

My replacement Carpet came in for the bow area. Its not an exact match, but close enough for now.
