Default Any reputable boat repair shops in Keller, TX?

Looks like I'm going to need my carburetor rebuilt and I've heard some horror stories from people that have gotten ripped off from local shops. Does anyone know of a reputable repair shop near Keller, TX?

There's definitely an abundance of horror stories out there for sure. Word of mouth references from your fellow boaters there is your best source for recommendations.

A carb rebuild doesn't necessarily have to be done by a marine shop. A competent automotive mechanic with carb rebuild skills would be capable.

From the prices charged that I have seen, heard most times...my thought was that I could have bought a new carb for less. If you have basic mechanical skills or know someone who does, a carb change-out/replacement is usually pretty simple.

If you decide to explore going that route, then tell us which carb you have so we can give you some recommendations.

I've heard that a replacement vs a rebuild is not that much of a difference. I would like to investigate getting a new carb as I'm sure the previous boat owner never put any $ into this one. how can I figure out which one I have?

    Thanks

Mercruiser 5.7's in 1996 is showing to have been equipped with both a 2 barrel carb or a 4 barrel. The plastic cover that sits on top of the carb has the "engine serial number" on it. With that number I can look it up. And just to confirm whether it is a 2 or 4 barrel carb, take the plastic cover off along with the spark arrestor on top of the carb and simply look down the top of it. It will have either two throats or 4.

Thanks, I have the boat in storage but will go look at it. In the meantime, here's the engine serial # 0K023774.

    really appreciate your help.

Your engine serial number is showing that's it's a 1997. But it still shows that it could be a 2 or 4 barrel so you will have to look at it visually to see.
