Default Vinyl Repair Using Truck Bed Liner

As with most of our old Mariahs, the back portion of my sundeck has developed several cracks.

Since this is limited to only the back portion and only the white area, I have been trying to figure out a coating that I could apply over it to get a few more years before a full repair (since I think the foam will begin to pull out soon).

After weighing several options, I believe the answer is a white truck bed liner ($39).

In addition to laying down a rubber layer to hide the cracks, it also contains some texture for slip prevention. This will come in handy when putting on the wakeboard at the back of the boat, because right now the vinyl is too slippery.

The process I plan to use is to:

1) Tape off the area to be coated (~2ft x 3 ft).
2) Thoroughly clean the area with soap and water and let dry, then clean with acetone.
3) Apply 2 coats of white truck bed liner per manufacturer instructions.
4) Hope it turns out ok.

So, I was wondering it anyone has any one has tried something like this before, or if they have any thoughts as to why this may be a good or bad idea.

For instance:

I believe if I prep the surface correctly, I doubt the coating will peel off.

or

I have a concern that as the coating dries, it will contract and rip the rest of the vinyl.

or

The extra coating won't rip the rest of the vinyl right away, but it will after people stand on it for a little bit.

Thank you in advance for your time,

Kris

I wish i could say that i've seen this done before but..... no such luck. I'd be interested in hearing how it works out though.

So, I have requested a sample. As long as they send me enough to try out, I'll spot test it and report my findings.

    Have a good one,

    Kris

The bed liners I have used in various apps becomes very frim I would be quite concerned about it pulling on the other vinyl as it won't give at all, and on that same not bed liners are tough because of solid backing the kind of flex they will get on a deck with foam backing? Not so sure but good luck if you go with it.
