Default Swim Platform... options... questions...

Well, my wife wants a swim platform... so I need everyone's opinions. Teak or Composite/Fiberglass.. what would look best on my 2001 Diablo?

I stumbled across this site and found some pictures of newer boats with the teak platform integrated into the existing swim step.

Teak Swim/Dive Platforms - Custom Teak Marine Woodwork

I was just curious what everyone's opinions are.. I cannot build a composite/fiberglass one... but my father could built a Teak one easily. He's a finish carpenter by trade and has made some amazing furniture/cabinets etc over the years. Just not sure if it would look correct on a boat like mine.

Thanks for the opinons.

Nick

I typically prefer the look of fiberglass over teak on a sport boat. Plus, it's one less thing you have to maintain.

I agree with Dredd, for our boats, go with fiberglass. I think a teak swim platform would look awesome on a trawler, sailboat, or something with real wood trim. It would probably look a little off on a boat like yours. We have such a limited amount of wood (and artificial plastic wood at that!) I think the teak may clash a bit. Not doubting your father's woodworking and carpentry abilities, I just think you'd be much happier with a fiberglass one.

Started looking at prices for teak... its wayyyy expensive. I showed the wife what it would cost in material... along with the costs for a fitted fiberglass one. I think she'll be living with the built in step... I'd rather take the 1200-1500 and put it towards a larger boat with cuddy. Thatnks again, I agree that the teak wouldn't look as good, not on my boat atleast.
