Default Help figuring out some stuff on my 01 Diablo.

I was curious, what should my Oil Pressure gauge read on my 2001 Mariah Diable w/3.0L? The gauge seems to stay around the 40 mark? How about the temp gauge?

My trim gauge works, but seems jittery when i'm putting the trim up and down. Does this have some type of cable that operates it? it acts as if it needs lubricated so that it operates more smoothly.

Oil Reservoir, should my boat use any of the oil from the reservoir? I think we've ran atleast 40 hours on the boat since purchase, and I had to add a very small amount to it.

Water in the ski locker? I have oily water in my ski locker, yet very little water in my hull (little enough that the bilge won't get it). It was completely dry when I bought the boat, even the inside hull. I think rain water is my main culprit.. but i'm not sure how to get the ski locker dry again. The carpet is saturated... but no actual water is laying there? Can the water in the ski locker actually drain? it looks as if it's blocked from the engine compartment.

Premium, Plus, or Regular... what type of fuel are you guys running in your boats? I've been running Premium (local station doesn't have ethanol in their Premium). We are getting ready to take the boat out of town and I don't want to pull it with a full tank. I figure where ever I go the fuel will have Ethanol in it. Suppose my boat cares what grade fuel I run? Will I notice a difference?

Thanks for all the help !

Nick

I was curious, what should my Oil Pressure gauge read on my 2001 Mariah Diable w/3.0L? The gauge seems to stay around the 40 mark? That sounds normal to me How about the temp gauge? What is it running? I believe around 160 to 180 F is normal. Anyone else have better info?

My trim gauge works, but seems jittery when i'm putting the trim up and down. Does this have some type of cable that operates it? it acts as if it needs lubricated so that it operates more smoothly. The trim gauge is electrical so you probably have an issue with the trim sender on the outdrive.

Oil Reservoir, should my boat use any of the oil from the reservoir? I think we've ran atleast 40 hours on the boat since purchase, and I had to add a very small amount to it.Just make sure it is above the add line.

Yes, the drain at the rear of the locker should drain into the bilge.

Will I notice a difference?Higher octane will help to reduce run on after the engine is turned off.

    IowaWing,

Thanks for the fast reply. We had the boat out on the water today and I did a good inspection of the ski locker. I think the water was stuck in there because it couldn't get to the drain vent easily (which I just now noticed). I didn't see it because it's black to match the carpet. I'm planning on adding some LED lights in the ski locker, bow compartments and engine compartment, so I will double check the way these places drain while I have it tore apart.

I ran regular in the boat today for the first time, I couldn't tell any difference in performance. However, I think i'll try to run premium as much as possible to be safe. I really don't trust the Ethanol blended fuel around here.

    Thanks again,
    Nicholas

We run alot of race gas in our snowmobiles. What I have found out about fuel is that the lower octane you can run without detanation the more power you will make. You can dino a car on regular and then on premium, if the car doesn't need the better gas it will make more power on regular. With snowmobiles the race gas slows down the burn for the high compression engines. Reed

I experienced Run on last night after shutting down a few times on the lake. The boat kinda dieseled until it shut completely off.

I also broke my speedo? not sure what happened but it's showing 0mph now. I guess I sucked something up debris wise? Any clue how to flush it or trouble shoot it?

Any suggestions on the best type of bumpers for our boats? The dock we tied off to was very high, and I need to find some type of bumper thats bigger? I also need to find a way to hang one midship.. because I don't have a tie off there.

    Thanks,
    Nick

On a boat that we owned a few years ago we had a clip that would slip over the windshield and the bumper would rope to that. It worked good but I would worry about it if you had high waves. Reed

Someone mentioned that to me at the Marina, but I am very leary of clipping anything to the windows. If they were easily replaced and cheap... perhaps. But since they seem to be as common as hens teeth... i'll wait awhile lol. Perhaps I can string a rope from the front to the back with bumpers hanging on it?
