good news! The carb was cleaned out and runs like a top. I was told to use the "HEET" in the red bottle, not the white bottle. It is suppose to be better than the regular. We are going to pull the tube with it this weekend and test her out.

did you have to clean out your gas tank as well? I keep losing fuel pumps, right now I am thinking contaminated gas is the culprit but I havent started the task of emptying and cleaning the tank yet.

really and truely, I am not sure how I would go about it. I thought I might try, but you can drain that tank but the trash will still be in there. And since you would have to go in thru the filler neck you can't really wipe it out. I did consider getting an in-line fuel filter between the tank and fuel pump to try to catch trash. On the water situation I am just going to keep running heet thru it and checking that seperator, there wasn't any water in it from running it the hole day memorial day weekend, so I would think there can't be much left, but as that tank gets a little more empty the more water comes thru.

thats exactly the reason I havent cleaned mine out yet, best point of access into the tank is through the sending unit hole but thats not very big. I just cant afford to keep replacing fuel pumps everytime i want to use the boat so i need to figure out who or what the culprit is.

i could be wrong, but I wouldn't think the gas would be the culprit. Are you by chance putting re-manned automotive pumps on it? If it is mechanical, it is hard to believe you are going thru them so quickly, they are usually very reliable. How are you testing them to see if they are pumping?

this might sound stupid, but did you check the fuse to whatever circuit you have it tied to for power. It is odd that it just all of a sudden quit like that, also I wonder if something happened to where it would not cut off after the boat was not running and burned up the pump motor. I honestly hate electric fuel pumps, as far as a vehicle goes, just for the noise and the wiring, but newer motors have to have them. I had one on my 72 chevy truck when I bought and it sounded like there was a lawnmower following me. Not to get off subject, but I wonder if it was the wiring for bypassing the shut off switch.

these pumps are actually pretty quiet but no it was not running after boating, I turn off the batteries when leaving the launch ramp. The very first thing i did was bypass the pressure switch, then look for a fuse, neither of which was the problem. To eliminate any faults of the boat wiring I then removed the fuel pump and connected it directly to a 12v source, and it will not pump at all, if you hold it in your hand you feel it try to engage but doesnt.
