Default Barchetta Hull Design

I have a 1995 182 Barchetta with 4.3LX. Just bought it last year and aside from having some carb problems right now I absolutely love the boat. If I have people in the back of the boat it is sometimes hard to not have water come right up and over the sundeck when coming to a stop? Is this normal? What causes this and what can I do to prevent it?

    Hi boarder1010,

I noticed you mentioned you use you boat for Wakeboarding in the Watersports Forum, do you have a lot of weight in the back of your Barchetta and/or running with up trim?

I do notice this more at the beginning of the day with full tank of fuel but yes I do use for wakeboarding and besides the weight of the tower and boards there is not excessive weight in the rear storage areas. I can control it but it seems odd for it to happen at all?I would have been trimmed down.

It comes all the way up to the engine cover? That seems a little excessive. If I come to a quick stop the water will come up onto the swim step but not the sundeck.

Water over the sun pad is not something shouldn't really happen. When coming to a stop, I trim my motor all the way down to lower the bow. Then I stop a little gradually rather than all at once. If my whole crew and passengers are seated at the rear, I often encourage some folks to ride up front.

    Best of luck,

Mine does the same thing. Once, I stopped very quickly and water came over the swim platform. I have also seen several other boats do the same thing. Like Captain Steve said, I like to slow down gradually. If I do have to stop quickly, I try to turn at the same time so the wave does not hit my boat directly from behind.

Good to see it does happen to others. Like I said, I can control it and I will just have to make sure to shift passengers around a bit more and stop very gradually especially when full of fuel and gear.

Vic - Very clever turning when coming off plane. I had not thought of that, even though it makes perfect sense.

    Smooth sailing,
