I am looking for a wiring schematic for the instrument panel for my 98' Jubilee. I recently converted from the 2 barrel Holly to a TBI, and in the process I lost the function of the tach. I am assuming the the tach ran off of the distributor and or computer, both of which were replaced, and their respective wiring abandoned. I would like to figure out how to integrate the factory Tach into the new ignition but I first need to figure out how it worked with the old system. Any help is appreciated.

Not bad really. I put about 35-40 hours into it. The kit comes with just about everything you'll need. I had to buy some misc. fittings and some fuel line, and I had to fab up some brackets and linkage parts, but that's really it. If I had to do it again I could probably do it in 25-30 hours. As long as you're mechanically inclined, and not scared, it's a pretty smooth operation.

I am pretty sure the tach signal will come from the coil. Should be a gray wire at one of the two terminal A's. What ECU model do you have, MEFI 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5? Did you get a different coil with the kit?

First my boat is a 2001 carbureted and may have same /similar Fariah tach but not sure. If it is the same I'm pretty sure they do get signal from the (-) side of the coil and it probably had breaker-less (no points) ignition but still a distributor. Fariah website may give you some technical details.

If you no longer have a distributor and have coil packs now fired by new computer you may have a problem. There is a switch on the back of those Fariah tachs that lets you select 4, 6, 8 or 12 cylinders (IIRC) but not a single cylinder engine as you might need to do with coil packs. Does your new set up still have a distributor? If not maybe the new computer has an output provision for a tach if you dig into their technical details. I would think it should.

I've had trouble with my tach and had it out and apart to free it up from sticking. When I had it out last I tested it on an older (80's) 6 cylinder BMW ignition on the coil (-) and set to 6 cylinder and it worked and read accurately. Switched it back for the boat, reinstalled, and it has worked great.
