During the last hurricane I really wanted to be able to drain some of the 50 gallons of fuel to use in a gas generator. I removed the filler pipe at the tank and tried to siphon there but was only able to get about 10 gallons. After the storm I wanted to make a system to drain it in the future. This is what I did. This may only work for an engine with the EFI/TBI engine, due to the fitting differences.

Important: For this entire procedure, have your fire extinguisher handy.

1. Remove the fuel pump relay mounted on a bracket near the port side exhaust manifold. Of the two relays there, it was the one farthest aft. Remove the relay from it's case by using two very small screwdrivers (tweekers) to release the hooks and pull up on the side of the relay. Do this once for each side of the relay. I bought a set of 5 waterproof connectors (male and female) that I ordered on eBay for this job. I used one pair and one male connector for a plug to keep out water and dust when not in use.

I drilled two 1/8" holes in the top of the relay case and soldered the two wires of one female connector to the locations shown in the photos here. The polarity and color of the wires is not important. Then press the relay back into its case. I used hot-melt glue to seal the holes around the wires. Then reinstall the relay into its socket on the engine.

2. Add 10 feet of 2-conductor wire of 18 gauge or larger to one male connectors wires and solder a SPST toggle switch to the free ends. I enclosed the switch in an old pill bottle to isolate any sparks.

3. Plug the two connectors together. Test the wire connections by operating the switch and the fuel pump should run. It is NOT necessary to have the ignition switch on. The wires just short together the normally open contacts of the relay. They do not operate the relay itself.

4. Remove the Schrader valve from the valve stem on the T-fitting at the fuel inlet of the throttle body. Install a 1/4" ID PVC hose of at least 10 feet' in length onto the valve stem. Run the hose to a collection container outside the boat.

5. Now you can operate the switch and fuel will flow at a good rate into the container.

6. When done, reverse steps 5, 4, and 3 and store the hose and cables for future use.

I just uploaded one to the gallery. I consider this layout to be less than ideal. It is awkward for the "first mate" to see forward. I think the original owner was a water ski enthusiast and wanted a rear facing observer seat. The photo is larger when viewed in the gallery.

First one I've seen like that. For the most part, this seat is always facing the rear for us. It's something in the new boats I've looked at that I thought was kinda neat. Pretty unique for you!

My demo ride in the boat was seated in that left front "seat'. I told the owner that was not a selling point and I might have to change it to a more standard layout if I bought the boat. It was very uncomfortable for me especially because there was nothing on which to hold while the boat was accelerating. I have since installed a grab bar in front of the seat. It doesn't look easy to change this layout so I may be stuck with it.
